Turon With Langka Cooking Tips

cooking tips

Here are some cooking tips that’ll take this treat to the next level:

Pick the right bananas.

Use saba or plantains to get the best texture and sweetness. The bananas you use must be ripe but not too ripe because they hold up better when fried.

Prepare the jackfruit properly.

Use fresh langka for the best flavor. If you don’t have access to one, use the canned version.  Just make sure it’s drained and sliced into thin strips so it can seamlessly mix with the banana.

Wrap it tightly.

Securely wrap the bananas and jackfruit in the wrapper. Doing this prevents oil from seeping in as you fry. It also produces a crispy exterior and properly cooked interior.

Use enough oil.

Heat the oil enough to cover the turon fully. Doing this ensures even cooking and a uniform golden brown crust.

Control the heat.

Fry the turon over medium heat. This prevents the sugar coating from burning while ensuring the inside is properly cooked.

Drain the excess oil.

Let the turon rest on paper towels or a wire rack to remove excess oil. Doing this keeps the wrap crispy and not greasy.

Caramelize properly.

Roll or sprinkle the wrap with sugar before frying. Doing this makes the outside caramelized. Some cooks like adding the sugar towards the end of frying to control the caramelization.

Serve it warm.

Enjoy the turon while it’s warm so you can savor the contrast between the crispy outside and soft, sweet inside.
