Cakes are one of the sweetest and most affordable snacks in human history.

When determining cake size for perfect cake servings, people often ask: which cake size should I bake/order for my event?

The short answer: It depends on the event and occasion!

This article will discuss cake sizes and the best baking apps and strategies to determine cake servings.

Determining Your cake servings size

Most bakers determine the sizes using full, half, and quarter sheet cake pans, which can mean a handful of different sizes and servings.

It’s best to provide an estimate of cake servings in general instead. You can then figure out the cake’s pan size that will work best depending on the application.

For example, let’s say you need to bake a cake for 20 people, and you have an 18×26-inch sheet pan as the perfect size.

To accommodate 40 people, you will have to use a 36×52-inch sheet pan instead.

In the next section, you will learn to choose the cake pan size that best fits your occasion.

Steps To Choose Your Cake Pan Size

The size of the cake pan you choose will depend on the number of people you are serving and the size of your cake. So, it is crucial to do some research before deciding on size. It would be best if you were not afraid to experiment with different sizes and shapes.

Step 1: Determine Your Cake Sizes using volume calculations

The way to determine the number of cake servings is by using volume calculations. We will use this as the standard serving: 125 cm³ (8³ inches).

Cylindrical volume formulas make figuring out cake servings per tier a breeze.

We can use this formula: “Volume = radius square π (Pi) height” because round cakes are mainly cylindrical.

The radius of a 20 cm (8″) diameter cake that is 10 cm (4″) high should be 10 cm (4″).

By dividing the cake volume with the serving volume, we’ll get the number of cake servings.

Using the formula above: A 20 cm (8″) cake that is 10 cm (4″) high will yield 25 servings that are 2.5 x 5 cm (1″ x 2″) large.

Step 2: How to determine your cake sizes Using App or Software

Sizes often get complicated and tedious to solve. Luckily, helpful calculation apps and programs can make it easier and faster.
